Ontario Making it More Convenient for Seniors to Renew Their Drivers’ Licences

Ontario Newsroom - January 17, 2025

On January 17, 2025, the Ontario Government announced that starting February 3, 2025, Ontario will make it easier for seniors aged 80 and over to renew their drivers’ licences by allowing them to complete mandatory vision and cognitive assessments and renew their licences in a single visit to select ServiceOntario centres. By the end of Spring 2025, this service will be available province-wide. Seniors will receive a renewal notice (via mail) 90 days before their licence expires, with instructions to book an appointment online or by phone. This streamlined process eliminates the need for multiple visits, reducing wait times and improving access to services, while helping seniors stay safely connected to their communities, as communicated by Todd McCarthy, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement.

Up to this point, senior drivers aged 80 and over had to visit a separate location to complete their vision and cognitive screening assessments and then proceed to ServiceOntario to renew their drivers’ licences.

We are happy to hear our province is easing the administrative burden off senior drivers in Ontario.
